ABOUT THE BREEDS
Before you decide to adopt a poodle or yorkie please know that this can be up to a 13 to 18 yr. commitment.
A poodle requires regular groomings consisting of hair cuts & brushing regularly. I groom my poodle babies about every 2-3 months with regular brushing.
A yorkshire terrier requires regular brushing about once a week at minimum. These breeds have hair that continues to grow like yours & mine. They do not have fur that grows to one length & stops growing. Poodles do not shed & Yorkies are little to no shed, they are also both hypoallergenic.
About the Poodle;
The poodle is the 2nd most intelligent breed. According to AKC, the poodle is the 8th most popular breed. AKC first registered this breed in 1887.
There are many color choices in their coats. White is the brightest of whites, black is the deepest, glossy, jet black. Silver is the lighter of the grays that is very distinct from the blue. Brown is a dark choclolate, deep & elegant. Red is deep & velvet that is distinct from apricot. Your true red will be similar to mahogany red. Blue is the darkest of the gray having a blue cast. Apricot is the color of a ripe apricot. Cream is almost white with a beige tint. Silver beige, & cafe au' lait are often confused. The Cafe Au Lait is like coffee with cream added, a light brown color. Silver beige is similar yet has a beige tint to it. A parti color is not an even solid color. These make a perfect pet but are disqualified for AKC shows. The parti color examples are, spotted, tuxedo, phantom, brindle, sable, or merle.
According to AKC there are 3 sizes of poodles. Measurements are taken at the highest point of the shoulder called the withers. The Standard poodle is the largest size & measure over 15 inches, the aveage is 22 to 27 inches. They generally weigh around 45 to 70 lbs. The miniature is the middle size & measure over 10 inches to 15 inches. They generally weigh around 14 to 17 lbs. The toy size is the smaller size measure 10 inches & below. The poodle is proportioned in a square apperance, The length of the body measured from the top of the shoulder blades to the point of the rump at the base of the tail, approximates height from the withers to the floor, thus giving the admired square apperance.
